| Wuf Technologies routinely handles a wide variety of computers,
telecommunications, laboratory, and other electronic equipment, with material
specifications and processing/packaging as follows. If you have
electronics that don’t fall under any of these specifications, please note
this in your service request.
If needed, Wuf can provide the proper shipping containers for most
electronic equipment. Contact us to determine what you’ll need prior to
shipping. They may be purchased on the supplies

COMPUTERS & ELECTRONICS DETAILED PACKAGING INFORMATION
(Click here for a printable copy of these
specifications in Adobe Acrobat)
The two most common shipping methods for surplus electronics are:
- Materials shipped in gaylord
boxes on pallets
A standard gaylord is a rigid cardboard box approximately 37" high
by 34" wide by 41" long. Empty gaylord boxes are shipped and
stored flat, and are unfolded for use. Wuf can secure gaylord boxes for
customers as required on request.
Gaylord boxes must be shipped on standard four way wooden pallets (see
pallet description below)
- Materials stacked and shrink
wrapped on pallets
A standard pallet is 48" by 40". The term "four
way" means that the pallet has forklift or pallet jack slots on all
four sides of the pallet. All pallets used for shipping must be sturdy and
unbroken. Wuf cannot receive materials shipped on odd sized pallets.
Wuf typically handles other shipping methods by special arrangement. For
example, if you have large items requiring special handling or packing, please
contact us directly for shipping specifications.
If a client chooses, Wuf makes every effort to resell surplus electronics.
If items have been determined to have value or potential value, we ask our
clients to take great care in preparing their materials for shipping. Please
refer to the sections below under "Items to be
Resold".
If it has been pre-determined that the electronics being shipped are of
little value and are for recycling (disassembly or destruction) only,
packaging requirements are less stringent. Please refer to the sections below
under "Items to be Recycled".
We also ask that all electronics shipped through our program be identified
with the customer’s name on each gaylord or pallet. Please contact
us for Wuf identification stickers, and shipping paperwork policies.
Items to be Re-Sold – Monitors (CRTs)
Monitors (CRTs) Shipped in Gaylord
Boxes
Packaging Guidelines:
 | Gaylord boxes must be on pallets. Pallets must be four-way pallets,
sturdy, and optimally sized at 48" x 40" — no oversized
pallets allowed. |
 | Do not throw, toss, or drop the equipment into gaylord boxes or on to
pallets (monitors are classified as a hazardous material if broken) |
 | No glass-on-glass. |
Packaging Instructions:
- Use 2 layers of bubble wrap and cardboard on the
bottom of the gaylord, and then place the monitors face down on the
cardboard.
- When one layer is complete, place another layer of bubble wrap
and cardboard down on top of the first layer of monitors, and start your
second layer of monitors, also face-down.
- Cover with cardboard or shrink wrap the top of the gaylord
- Place a Wuf identification label on each
gaylord

Pallets
Packaging Guidelines:
 | Pallets must be four-way pallets, sturdy, and optimally sized at
48" x 40"—no oversized pallets allowed. |
 | Do not throw, toss, or drop the equipment into gaylord boxes or on to
pallets (monitors are classified as a hazardous material if broken) |
 | No glass on glass. Use 2 layers of bubble wrap and cardboard (sticking
out 3" beyond the monitors) on the bottom (top face of pallet), then
place the monitors face down on the cardboard. When one layer is complete,
place another layer of bubble wrap and cardboard down on top of the first
layer of monitors, and start your second layer of monitors. |
Packaging Instructions:
- Stack monitors square on each level. If stacking 15" monitors, 9
monitors generally equal 1 level
- Stack monitors 6’ high. In a load of 15" monitors, that would
typically be 36 monitors (4 layers of monitors, 9 monitors per layer).
- Shrink wrap entire pallet stack, starting by tying shrink wrap to the
pallet. Completely wrap the pallet stack tightly so no shifting occurs
during loading and transport.
- Place a Wuf identification label on each
pallet

 | Do not throw, toss, or drop the equipment into gaylord boxes or on to

Packaging Instructions:
- Equipment should be placed carefully, item-by-item, into the gaylord box.
Equipment should be placed in layers of uniform height, and layers should be
separated by cardboard or bubble wrap.
- Additional cardboard or bubble wrap can
be used to separate items which might scrape against each other during
shipment.
- The highest equipment stacked in the gaylord should be no
higher than the sides of the gaylord.
- When full, cover with cardboard
or shrink wrap the top of the gaylord
- Attach a Wuf identification label to each
gaylord

Pallets
Packaging Guidelines: Pallets must be four-way pallets, sturdy, and optimally sized at 48" x

Packaging Instructions:
- Stack equipment in stable layers, separating layers with cardboard (to
prevent damage during shipment).
- Additional cardboard or bubble wrap can
be used to separate items which might scrape against each other during
shipment. (Small items such as keyboards and mice should not be part of
these layers because they make the load unstable. They should be shipped
separately or placed at the top of the pallet load.)
- Shrink wrap entire pallet stack, starting by tying shrink wrap the
pallet. Completely wrap pallet the stack tightly so no shifting occurs
during loading and transport.
- Place a Wuf identification label on each

Equipment Shipped on
Pallets
Packaging Guidelines: Equipment must be stacked and wrapped so that it forms a stable load that
will not shift during handling and transportation. Generally layer larger
items at the bottom, smaller items toward the top.
Packaging Instructions:
- If possible, when justified by material volume, try to sort materials
into like types (e.g., CPUs on one pallet, printers on one pallet,
keyboards on one pallet, miscellaneous wires, cables, etc. on one pallet).
Keeping like items together will make the most stable pallet.
- Then shrink wrap entire pallet stack, starting by tying shrink wrap to
the pallet. Completely wrap the pallet stack tightly so no shifting occurs
during loading and transport.
- Place a Wuf identification label on each
pallet

TRANSPORTATION
Wuf can handle electronic equipment in full truckload and less-than
truckload quantities. Transportation costs are much less if the material can
be shipped in full truckloads. If you have less than a truckload, we will try
to match your load with another nearby Wuf client to produce a full truckload
volume, and give you both the benefit of reduced transportation costs.
SCHEDULING PICK-UP
Please give Wuf as much lead time as possible in advance of your required
pickup date. More time gives us more choice of markets and transportation
options, and ultimately provides clients with the best possible pricing or
revenue return. For less-than-truckload quantities, additional time also lets us
try to match your load with loads from other Wuf clients.
PRICING
Prices to recycle computers and other surplus electronics are dependent on
the quantity, composition, and quality of the materials shipped. We’ll ask you
to provide as much detail as you can in advance of shipment about the electronic
equipment you’re disposing of, and use this information to shop the property
to Wuf’s markets. In some cases, we’ll be able to provide a firm price quote
before the material is shipped. In other cases, the final price will be
dependent on the market’s evaluation after receipt of your materials, and Wuf
will provide a detailed reconciliation sheet. In general, recycled electronic
equipment falls into four categories with decreasing value:
- equipment
that can be re-sold
- equipment recyclable for component recovery
- equipment recyclable for commodity recovery
- equipment for
destructive recycling.

As a standard Wuf service, we’ll keep you updated
on current price trends and new developments under our What’s
New page. Check it frequently as it can help you decide
when to ship in a hurry to take advantage of a price surge, or to hold
on to materials when prices drop temporarily.
